A significant donation to power our hospital throughout the night
Today we have some incredible news to share with you! Thiernau Financial Services have donated over $10,000 to buy a night generator and haematology analyzer for our hospital. This will have a huge impact on how we care for our patients.
One of our biggest ongoing challenges is a lack of electricity. Our hospital relies on old solar panels and these only provide 12 hours of electricity during the sunny season and much less during the rainy season. As a back up we have a big unreliable diesel generator that gobbles up fuel and is very costly to run.
Very recently a child died because the electricity powered by our diesel generator went out during the night.
The donation from TFS will enable us to run a smaller generator throughout the whole night at a much cheaper cost.
In addition, the much needed haematology analyzer will finally give our staff a better way to diagnose and treat patients. Blood tests are one of the most important things a physician needs to determine what might be wrong with a patient and monitor their progress. Without this information, treatment will often depend on guesswork. Now that our medical staff have access to blood testing they can quickly identify diseases and make better informed decisions about treatment.
There is still a long way to go. We still need a new solar panel system to provide reliable power throughout all seasons of the year and we will be promoting a fundraiser for that very soon. But this is a significant development that we are very, very grateful for.
